Traveling During COVID-19

The safety of our attendees, volunteers and staff is the Alzheimer’s Association's utmost priority. The Association is working towards the best ways to safely convene the research community by following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and San Diego’s local COVID-19 guidelines to make sure AAIC 2022 is a valuable — and safe — scientific meeting.

Please review the CDC guidelines for travel to and within the U.S., and the U.S. State Department’s latest travel information and requirements.

Housing

Stay in the official AAIC hotel block and save! Book your accommodations in the official hotel block by July 7, 2022 at 5 p.m. Central Time (North America).

Room blocks have been reserved at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, Hilton San Diego Bayfront, Omni San Diego Hotel and the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina — all within a 10-minute walk of the Convention Center. Discounted room rates are available to registered AAIC attendees as a benefit of registration. If attendees choose to use other means to reserve their hotel rooms outside of the official AAIC room block, the Association may incur penalties over time that could result in higher rates and registration fees.

Top five reasons to book within the official AAIC 2022 housing block:

  1. Official hotels are inspected and approved by the Alzheimer's Association.
  2. Greater networking opportunities exist in hotels inside the block.
  3. Housing representatives are available for on-site assistance with the official hotel.
  4. Friendly booking terms — no change fees or full prepayment required.
  5. AAIC Corporate Symposia and ancillary meetings are held at the conference hotel.

If you have any questions, please contact OnPeak Reservations:

Avoid scams: Please note that there is an increasing number of fake websites and agencies claiming to offer hotel and registration services. Experient / Maritz Global Events (registration) and OnPeak Reservations (hotel accomodations) are the official companies for AAIC 2022. We would like to alert all conference participants to be aware of possible scams and only use our trusted online registration services. If you are contacted by a third party offering accommodation or registration this is likely to be fraudulent activity. Please contact aaic@onpeak.com if you require further assistance.

Getting To and From the Airport

There are a few options to get from the San Diego International Airport to downtown San Diego, where the San Diego Convention Center is located.

Taxis and Rideshare Services
Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are a quick and easy way to get to your destination. They can be found at the Transportation Plazas outside of each terminal.

Route 992 Bus
Take the Route 992 bus, which stops outside of baggage claim at both airport terminals every 15 minutes between ~5 a.m. – midnight every day. The 992 bus makes several stops on Broadway.

From Broadway, you can reach your hotel or the Convention Center via a short walk, or by transferring to the Green Line on the San Diego Trolley light rail. Plan your route with the MTS Trip Planner tool.

Getting Around San Diego

San Diego’s public transportation system uses the PRONTO card and app to pay for bus and trolley fares. Buses also accept cash. Download the PRONTO app in the Apple or Google Play stores to get started. Learn more about fares, passes and getting a PRONTO card.

Buses
Buses provide an economical way to navigate San Diego and beyond. View bus schedules and plan your route.

San Diego Trolley (Light Rail)
The iconic bright red San Diego Trolley provides convenient services from key locations downtown — including the Santa Fe Depot, San Diego Convention Center — to various locations like Old Town, Mission Valley, El Cajon, Santee and San Ysidro, which is on the Mexican border. View trolley routes, schedules and more information.

Pedicabs
Pedicabs are a popular form of transportation along downtown's waterfront and in the Gaslamp Quarter. There are tours available as well, providing a unique way to explore San Diego's downtown communities.

Regional trains

No matter where you want to go, San Diego’s transportation options can get you there. Learn more about other transportation options, getting around without a car or use the MTS Trip Planner tool to plan your route using public transportation.

Visa Information

Visitors outside the U.S. seeking to attend AAIC may require appropriate documents to enter the country. The type of documentation required depends on the purpose of the visit and your country of residence. For an overview and more information on obtaining a visa, visa policies and procedures, please visit the U.S. State Department’s website or use the Visa Wizard tool.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have made traveling from your country to the U.S. more complicated. We highly recommend contacting your embassy for the most up-to-date information about what type of visa you may need.

If you require an AAIC invitation letter, please email aaic@alz.org.
