Conference Fellowships

On This Page:

Apply for a conference fellowship and seize the opportunity to share your work with the world! Presenting authors can apply for a conference fellowship primarily during the abstract submission period. A limited number of fellowships are awarded in various packages that may include one, two or three of the following:

  • Complimentary AAIC registration.
  • One round trip, non-refundable, coach-class airfare (directly booked and billed through the Alzheimer’s Association).
  • Four nights of hotel stay (room and tax only; directly booked and billed through the Alzheimer’s Association).

Final conference fellowship decisions are made once all AAIC 2026 preconference and main conference submissions are complete and are selected for inclusion in the program. Notifications will be sent out in late March 2026.

Organizers and invited speakers related to ISTAART activities may have the opportunity to apply for a conference fellowship after being notified that their event is accepted. However, the primary recommended route for conference fellowships is through abstract submission. Conference fellowships are not guaranteed and consider a number of factors and criteria. Watch the Guide to AAIC Conference Fellowships to learn more.

How to Apply

In order to apply for a conference fellowship, an individual must be a presenting author of an abstract or ISTAART activity and provide a statement of need (no more than 300 words) in the last step of the submission process.

Criteria and Eligibility

Conference fellowships are very competitive and are awarded based on a thorough review of the application materials and financial need, with consideration of:

  • Country: Priority is given to presenting authors based in a low, lower-middle or upper-middle income country, as designated by the World Bank, or a developing economy or economy in transition, as designated by the United Nations.
  • Presentation type(s): Priority is given to presenting authors selected for an oral presentation. Additional consideration will be given based on the variety of participation from each requestor (e.g. leading a preconference or ISTAART Immersive, presenting an oral and/or poster presentation at the main conference, or leading other events across the AAIC program and related educational events).
  • Average review score: Priority is given to presenting authors with higher average scores.
  • Career stage: Priority is given to presenting authors who are students, postdoctoral researchers or early-career researchers.
  • Statement of need: The statement of need is also considered.

Notification

Final decisions are made once abstracts are selected for inclusion in the AAIC program, with recipients notified by the end of March. Failure to accept the fellowship by the designated date will result in forfeiture of the fellowship.

Registration and Booking Travel

If you apply for a conference fellowship, please do not register or book your travel for AAIC until you receive the notification as reimbursements are not provided. Failure to adhere to this guideline will result in forfeiture of all or part of the fellowship as determined by the Association.
